151 Gigging in Your Pajamas

by Dave on July 9, 2007

I have heard alot about Second Life (http://www.secondlife.com/ ) and how this online community has 4.4 million people “hanging out ” online. For those that remember AOL chat (when it was huge), its a bit like that only now you have a virtual you. (It’s kind of like the video game “The Sims”). Well with people hanging out there, Musicians are now starting to “tour” Second Life. I got an email from Rich Plamer (http://www.richplamer.com/ ) and how he is using it to test songs. Matthew Ebel (http://www.matthewebel.com/ ) has had some good luck, and some not so good gigs (much like REAL life) by playing second life vendues. Another big fan of Second Life is Jay Moonah of http://www.onlinemusicmarketing.com/ )

I personally am not involved much with second life. I spent two days learning how to fly around, and decided to focus more on “First life” and venture into second life later (also only my laptop is powerful enough to handle the software).

Events Coming Up Dave will be alking Podcasting with Jason Van Orden and Bob Baker as Part of Bob Bakers Insiders Club more info or sign up to be part of Bob Baker’s Insider’s Club

Julie Blake of Get Music Success is hosting a free teleconference “How to Get Fans to Throw Money at You” at http://www.getmusicsuccess.com/FreeTeleConference.html (I’m not involved with this, but thought it was worth a mention).

Website Updates I redid the Musicians Cooler Website at http://www.musicianscooler.com/ (using Joomla software http://www.joomla.org/) . I’ve learned alot about joomla from a website call the Joomla Shack I’ve brought back the forums, but they’ve been bombarded with spam. (so approval of new members will be a bit slower in the future).

Rich Palmer is using http://www.secondtunes.com/ and http://cruxy.com/ to help promote and sell his music while he “tours” second life.

Aaron wanted to know of any good places to learn how to podcast. Check out www.schoolofpodcasting.com and use the coupon code “cooler” to get a discount.

Nick Daughertry of http://www.nicksjourney.com/ wanted to know if there was still a coupon available for the Audio Book Version of Get Your Band OUt of the Basement and Keep them Out of the Asylum. (yes, but you need to listen to the podcast to get the coupon). Check out Nicks’s Journey via video. http://www.nicksjourney.com/
